Message From The Chief

The City of Black Hawk, also known as the "City of Mills," is nestled in the scenic Rocky Mountains, located 18 miles west of Golden, Colorado. This historic city, which was incorporated in 1864, grew from the "gold rush days" and prospered as a milling town. In 1991 the city became one of the three destination locations in Colorado where limited stakes gambling was legalized. The city is now the premier gambling venue in Colorado and is home to 16 casinos hosting 20,000 visitors a day. Mountain living is something the residents and visitor in Black Hawk enjoy on a daily basis. With this appreciation of the outdoors comes a great responsibility to protect both human and wildlife. Bears are sharing space with an ever growing human population. The Black Hawk Police Department requests all citizens and visitors take proper precautions to ensure the safety of man and animal.
